Kahului (Hawaiian pronunciation: [kəhuˈluwi]) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Maui County in the U.S. state of Hawaii. It hosts the county's main airport (Kahului Airport), deep-draft harbor, light industrial areas, and commercial shopping centers. The population was 26,337 at the 2010 census. We wanted to reroof our house, and in the process, add insulation to a ceiling where there was none. Checking local roofing contractors, we noticed Haleakala Solar had expanded their services into the roofing business. We had previously used Haleakala Solar to design and construct a solar carport for us, and were very happy with their performance then, so we called them out for a consultation. They recommended installing a 2x4 grid structure on top of the existing roof, filling the space with closed-cell insulation, adding a radiant barrier, and putting on a new roof deck and shingles. Said they had successfully done this before, so we placed a contract with them. They were out in a few weeks with the materials and went to work. It was a big job for a small house, but they completed it in 6 working days. I have to say they were very professional and did a fantastic job. The ceiling temperature, measured with an infrared thermometer, dropped by about 15 degrees. Our house is so much more comfortable now, I wish we had done this years ago!
